DESCRIPTIONS of PUPPETS

  • Hand & Rod Puppets

Puppets built to be manipulated from below or behind that use rods and the performer’s arms to maneuver the head, arms, legs, and body.

  • Contemporary Bunraku / Walking Puppets

These full-body puppets are traditionally attached to the performer by their midsection and feet and utilize the performer’s arms or rods to manipulate the hands and head. They may be designed to be controlled by one or many puppeteers depending on the motions and controls desired.

  • Walkaround / Body Puppets

Able to be worn like a full-body costume or with the performer only visible in places, these large-scale puppets are designed to transform a performer into a puppet. The puppeteers full body becomes able to control the movements of the puppet.

  • Tabletop Puppets

These puppets are generally smaller and allow the audience to see the entirety of the puppet. Controlled with the performer’s hands or with rods and triggers, they can be maneuvered quickly and can be designed to accommodate a wide range of motions and mechanisms.

  • Stop Motion Puppets

Also known as Armature puppets, they contain adjustable rods and internal mechanisms that allow them to move and hold position easily. These puppets are utilized for their malleability and stability, allowing them to move freely while being able to hold positions for long stretches of time.

  • Marionettes

These strung puppets are traditionally operated from above using strings and a controller and are manipulated in a way that hides the performer completely. They are very lightweight and can be designed to duplicate elaborate movements.

  • Parade Puppets

These massive scale puppets are often mounted on.

  • Costuming for Puppets

Outside of the various furs and materials that puppets may be covered in, we also design customized clothing to accessorize and embellish puppets. These pieces include specialty and trick costuming like hats, tearaways, quick-changes, and rigs.

  • Harnesses & Shoes

Large scale puppets often require customized harness and rigging shoes to fully control. We design our harness and shoes to specifically connect to rigged puppets to ensure the smoothest connectivity between performer and puppeteer.

  • Props

From lifelike duplication to stylized ornaments, props vary from stationary objects to elaborate illusion mechanisms able to perform functions and enhance productions.
